Learn all the basics of writing a screenplay, and finish the class with a script that you can actually shoot, send to film festivals, and maybe even win awards. This course is an introduction to the techniques and elements of screenwriting, designed to provide you with skills that cultivate 1) an ability to create narrative story lines; 2) an understanding of the dramatic structure of screenplays; and 3) an ability to read and write in basic film script format.

Margaret Cardillo Fronefield is a Florida native. She graduated from Boston College and then became Associate Editor at Hyperion Books Children. She earned two MFAs–one in Creative Writing and one in Screenwriting–from the University of Miami on fellowship. Her children’s book, JUST BEING AUDREY, a biography of Audrey Hepburn for children, won the Florida Book Award Gold Medal in 2011. Margaret’s next book, a children’s biography of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, will be published in 2017. Margaret’s film, POSTHUMOUS, won an Emmy in the student category, received several Best of Fest awards, and is being screened on Virgin Atlantic Airlines. Margaret teaches screenwriting at UM and lives with her family in Miami.

Luke Fronefield is a writer whose films “The Meter Man of Le Moutrechon” and “El Mar Y El” have played and won at festivals around the world, including Cannes Film Festival, Miami International Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, Canes Fest, and others. HBO bought the rights to his film “El Mar Y El” and is currently playing it on HBOLatino and HBO GO. Luke lives with his family in Miami.
