Adam Gopnik’s At the Strangers’ Gate: Arrivals in New York captures the romance of New York City in the 1980s. Daniel Mendelsohn’s memoir, An Odyssey: A Father, a Son, and an Epic is a deeply moving tale of a father and son’s transformative journey in reading—and reliving—Homer’s epic masterpiece.
