Teen Poetry Workshop with Darius Daughtry
Story and Power: Using Your Personal Narrative to Craft Powerful Poems
One-day Teen Poetry Workshop: Saturday, July 27 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
We all have a story to tell. Our lives our full of experiences that shape us and contribute in crafting our outlook on the world. As writers, being able to excavate stories from our own experiences and utilize them to create art that explores the past, confronts the present, and imagines the future.
This poetry workshop will involve participants in multiple exercises and collaborative writing sessions in an attempt to unlock and amplify each writer’s personal voice.
Participants will create original work and have an opportunity to receive feedback on previously-written pieces.

Darius V. Daughtry is an accomplished poet, playwright, director, and educator with over a decade worth of experience in South Florida and beyond who truly believes in the transformative power of words. Organizations such as the Poetry Foundation, Adrienne Arsht Center, Broward Center of Performing Arts, Miami-Dade Public Schools, O, Miami have commissioned Darius to conduct created writing and performance workshops and trainings.
He is the Founder and Artistic Director of Art Prevails Project, a performing arts organization dedicated to expanding cultural conversation through theatrical performance, arts education, and community engagement.
His recently published book of poetry, And the Walls Came Tumbling, is an introspective poetic memoir and cultural critique. Equal parts praise dance and eulogy, And the Walls Came Tumbling is full of vulnerable, introspective poems that explore race, class, gender – and questions their existence in and effect on our lives.
