(El Rashidi, Yasmine) Yasmine El Rashidi is an Egyptian writer. She is a regular contributor to The New York Review of Books, and an editor of the Middle East arts and culture quarterly Bidoun. She lives in Cairo, where she is currently translating the works of Egyptian novelist Khairallah Ali. El Rashidi’s debut novel is Chronicle of a Last Summer: A Novel of Egypt (Tim Duggan Books) depicts a young Egyptian woman over the course of three decades, who must come to terms with her past as she explores the conscience of a generation raised in silence.
