Dr. Pierre Michel Saint-Clair completed his undergraduate studies at Faculté d’Agronomie de Damien, Haiti, and his graduate studies at the Interamerican Institute of Agricultural Science – renamed CATIE – in Costa Rica, and at the Agricultural University of Wageningen, Netherlands. He attended the Tropical Crop Science Department at the latter institution (1969 – 1972). Dr. Saint-Clair also holds a MBA from a university in California. Dr. Saint-Clair’s career is intimately tied to the tropical world and third-world countries in general. While an Assistant Professor at the School of Agriculture in Laval University, in Ste-Foy, Quebec, he did an internship on grain resistance to drought at Lincoln University, Nebraska, and later continued his research in Canada and Senegal in collaboration with the agronomics research center of the latter country. Simultaneously, he taught tropical agronomics to third-world students enrolled at the School of Agriculture. He acquired his field experience during long- and short-term missions in about ten countries in Africa and Latin America. He occupied various positions, including Consultant, Program Manager, Adviser, Agricultural Research Manager, Project Director, and Founding Dean of the School of Agriculture. He has authored several publications, including scientific articles, books, planning and programming tools for research and project management, varietal selection methods for stress resistance (heat, dessiccation and drought). His proficiency in multiple languages and his personal experience have allowed him to extend the knowledge he acquired on the topics presented in his educational books. Still interested in international development, Dr. Saint-Clair works as consultant whenever he is available.
