Born and residing in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Orlando Felix García Martínez is a historian and writer. He directs the Cienfuegos branch of the UNEAC (Writers and Artists Union) and is a founding member of the Unión de Historiadores de Cuba (UNHIC) in Cienfuegos. He teaches history and sociocultural anthropology at the University of Cienfuegos and is a prolific and highly respected author of numerous major articles and a dozen books about the history of slavery and slave emancipation in Cuba. He has lectured about his research at prestigious universities in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America, and has been a Visiting Scholar at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University. He has been honored with the Distinción “Por la Cultura Nacional” de la República de Cuba.
