Born in Port-au-Prince (Haiti) in 1956, Lyonel Trouillot pursued a law degree. At an early age, he became fascinated with literature and contributed poetry and critical texts to various newspapers and periodicals in Haiti and the diaspora. He wrote the lyrics to many of the songs by Tambou Libète, Manno Charlemagne, Toto Bissainthe, Jean Coulanges and Atis Endepandan. A journalist and literature professor, he co-founded the periodicals Lakansyèl, Tèm and Langaj. Lyonel Trouillot is currently a member of the editorial board of the magazine Cahiers du Vendredi and the co-director of the anthology that bears the same name.
