(Bello, Bayyinah) Bayyinah Bello’s teaching career began in 1969 in the U.S.A, where she taught Arabic at Muhammad University of Islam. There, she discovered the joy of writing and published several language manuals and children story books. In 1972, she moved to Nigeria where she developed her passion for history and love of languages. Bello is fluent in Haitian Creole, French, English, Arabic and Hausa. Having travelled to several African countries, Bello lived for a time in Togo, where she taught English and Arabic for different financial institutions including the Bank of West Africa. In the United States, she earned a Master’s Degree in Primary Education, after which she decided to return to her native Haiti in 1979. In Haiti, she taught the Hausa language and culture at the State University of Haiti and founded the Citadelle International School, a bilingual school for primary and secondary aged children. Bello is also the founder of the Fondation Marie Claire Heureuse Félicité Bonheur Dessalines (Fondasyon Felicitee), which provides several community initiatives towards empowering local communities. Bello has been published widely and has lectured on a wide range of subjects at various conferences and seminars all over the world on issues related to self-development, African and Haitian History, personal development, and natural health.
