(Miller, Adrian) Adrian Miller is a food writer, recovering attorney and certified barbecue judge. Previously, he worked in politics: first, in the White House as a special assistant to President Bill Clinton; then as the general counsel and outreach director of the Bell Policy Center–a progressive think tank. His first book, Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time, won the James Beard Foundation Award for Scholarship and Reference in 2014. In his latest book, The President’s Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families, from the Washingtons to the Obamas (The University of North Carolina Press), Miller vividly tells the stories of the African Americans who worked in the presidential food service as chefs, personal cooks, butlers, stewards, and servers for every First Family since George and Martha Washington.
