Speak Up: Creative Writing + Performance (Fall 2023)

Join us online for Speak Up, a teen creative writing program supporting the artistic and professional growth of teens.

In this FREE virtual creative writing workshop mini-series, teens will partner with experienced teaching artists to empower the creative writing process, from drafting to performance to publishing, to boost literacy and empower youth in Miami through community-based writing activities.

The program is open to all teens (ages 13-19) and is as free of charge as it is free of homework. No previous experience necessary!


September 30: Instructor Patricial Park, author of Re Jane

Patricia Park is an Assistant Professor of Literature at American University, Fulbright scholar in Creative Arts, Jerome Hill Artist Fellow, and author of the debut young adult novel, IMPOSTER SYNDROME & OTHER CONFESSIONS OF ALEJANDRA KIM.

She is the author of the acclaimed adult novel, RE JANE, a Korean American reimagining of Brontë’s JANE EYRE named Editors’ Choice by The New York Times Book Review; Best Books of 2015 by American Library Association; O, The Oprah Magazine pick; NPR “Fresh Air” pick; and others. She has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times, Guardian, Salon, and others.

She was born and raised in Queens, graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, Swarthmore College, and received her MFA from Boston University.

She is working on her next YA novel, WHAT’S EATING JACKIE OH? and an adult novel about the Koreans in Buenos Aires called CHINO. Her novels are all part of the “Queens Multiverse.”
