“More Than What Happened: The Aftermath of Gun Violence in Miami”: Nadege Green

Arsimmer McCoy is a Miami Gardens, Florida-based storyteller, collaborative artist, educator, and cultural worker. McCoy produces work in the form of poetry, short story literature, creative writing, performance, educational workshops, and creative direction. She has performed around the world, alongside artists of multiple disciplines and considers it her obligation to bring back the knowledge and stories to her students in South Florida.

Darius V. Daughtry is a writer, director, educator, and the founder of the Art Prevails Project. His poetry collection, And the Walls Came Tumbling, was published by Omiokun Books in 2019.

LeeBetsy Charon is an accountant and entrepreneur and the founder and principal of The Craft Accountant. The accounting firm specializes in craft breweries and small businesses. Charon will be at Miami Book Fair 2022 as part of the panel “More Than What Happened: The Aftermath of Gun Violence in Miami,” moderated by Nadege Green.

Nadege Green is an independent researcher, writer, and community historian based in Miami. She is the founder of Black Miami-Dade, a digital storytelling and history platform that resists the erasure of Miami’s Black past. Her reporting has appeared in The Atlantic and the Miami Herald, and has been featured on NPR, WLRN News, and WNYC. Green, who was born in Miami-Dade County, is a frequent lecturer and speaker on community storytelling, local history, and race. She will be at Miami Book Fair 2022 to moderate “More Than What Happened: The Aftermath of Gun Violence in Miami,” a panel on the anthology of the same name for which Green served as editor.

Webber J. Charles is the senior site director of Breakthrough Miami – Ransom Everglades School, where he focuses on motivating high-achieving, low-income students and guiding his professional and community work. He has managed several of the school’s community outreach programs and served as a faculty sponsor of the Black Student Association and Ransom Everglades Chess Club. A first-generation Haitian American born and raised in Miami, Charles also served as a faculty committee member of the Diversity Council, the Booker T. Washington Student Exchange Program, and the Haiti Initiative. He will be at Miami Book Fair 2022 as part of the “More Than What Happened: The Aftermath of Gun Violence in Miami” panel, moderated by Nadege Green.
