MARLEINE BASTIEN PRESENTS THE ADVENTURES OF ANGELINA
The Adventures of Angelina is the story of a Haitian family who arrives on the “land of the free” in a DPM-Kantè. The book celebrates Haitian art, history, and culture, and introduces the values that contribute to a peaceful and harmonious society.
In Angelina in the Land of the Free, the main character models resilience, determination, and the ability to face challenges (including bullying) with tenacity. Marleine Bastien offers some powerful lessons, which are tremendously important in today’s world.
Marleine Bastien is the executive director of the Family Action Network Movement (FANM). Ms. Bastien has a master’s degree in social work from Florida International University, with more than 20 years of clinical experience and eight years of direct administrative experience in non-profit management. She has championed the cause of women, children and Haitian families through her dedicated advocacy in the areas of immigration and human rights, HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, and domestic violence.
Free copies of the books will given to children in attendance, while supplies last, courtesy of Books for Free, program of the Miami Book Fair in partnership with The Children’s Trust.
