LATINOS IN AMERICA: A CURRENT PORTRAIT – NONFICTION

MARIE ARANA was born in Lima, Peru. She is the author of the memoir American Chica: Two Worlds, One Childhood (The Dial Press), which was a finalist for the National Book Award; Cellophane: A Novel (The Dial Press) and Lima Nights: A Novel (The Dial Press); the prizewinning biography Bolívar: American Liberator (Simon & Schuster); Silver, Sword, and Stone: Three Crucibles in the Latin American Story (Simon & Schuster), a narrative history of Latin America; The Writing Life: Writers On How They Think And Work (PublicAffairs), a collection from her well-known column for The Washington Post; and LatinoLand: A Portrait of America's Largest and Least Understood Minority (Simon & Schuster). She is the inaugural literary director of the Library of Congress and lives in Washington, D.C., and Lima, Peru.

PAOLA RAMOS is an author and Emmy-winning journalist. She is a contributor to Telemundo News and MSNBC, where she is the host of Field Report with Paola Ramos. She is also a former correspondent for Vice News. Prior to her career in journalism, Ramos was the deputy director of Hispanic media for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign; a political appointee during former President Barack Obama’s administration; and served in Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. She is also a former Hauser Leader in the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School, where she received her master’s degree in public policy, and recently joined the board of trustees of her alma mater, Barnard College. She is the author of Finding Latin-X: In Search of the Voices Redefining Latino Identity (Vintage). Ramos was born in Miami to Cuban and Mexican parents, grew up in Madrid, and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Journalist and author RAY SUAREZ is a veteran broadcaster with decades of experience as a national chief correspondent covering national and international issues. Previously, Suarez was the host of Al Jazeera America’s daily news program and a correspondent and anchor on PBS NewsHour, where he rose to become chief national correspondent covering the 9/11 attacks, four presidential elections, and more. Today he hosts On Shifting Ground, a syndicated radio program on NPR that explores international fault lines and how they impact us all.
