In author and editor John Freeman‘s anthology Animals – featuring new work from Mieko Kawakami, Martín Espada, Kali Fajardo-Anstine, Arthur Sze, Camonghne Felix, and more – he explores the irrevocably intertwined lives of animals and the humans that exist alongside them. In Pathetic Literature, Eileen Myles presents a global anthology of pieces selected from lesser-known classics by luminaries like Franz Kafka, Samuel R. Delany, and Gwendolyn Brooks, to up-and-coming writers that examine pathos and feeling, giving a well-timed rehab to the word “pathetic.” It’s a collection of pieces ranging from poetry to theater to prose to something in between. Joining them are Animals contributor Tess Gunty and Pathetic contributor Christopher Soto.
