Electric Piquete
Formed in the summer of 2007, Electric Piquete is a three-time Miami New Times “Best of Miami” award-winning Latin funk outfit. The band has played virtually all major events in South Florida, including the Miami Music Festival, Calle Ocho, Carnaval on the Mile, the Ball & Chain Music Festival, and Arts in the Park – indeed, few major venues have not seen them grace their stage. The group’s influences, as diverse as the Miami region that birthed it, range from rock to jazz and are spiced with everything in between: funk, Afro-Caribbean, progressive, and R&B. Mostly instrumental, the band does feature vocals and rapping on several numbers, as well as a tight rhythm section and heavy percussion that supports melodious horn play. Its repertoire consists primarily of original compositions, with Latin and jazz standards thrown in that borrow from a range of artists, from Herbie to Mongo. Electric Piquete released its long-awaited full-length recording, Azabache, in September 2024.
