Judge Newman will be presented by former Dolphins player Nat Moore, and the authors will be in conversation with Andrew Leinoff.

Brainy, candid, vivid, and visceral, Newman’s Warrior Judge highlights his transformation from a hapless Miami Dolphins rookie into an elite player and then, by way of a law degree, an elected judge in South Florida.
From humble beginnings as a Jewish kid in Long Island, Newman is drafted by Don Shula and his “perfect season” 1972 Miami Dolphins. He overcomes culture shock, alpha-dog hazing, coaches’ doubts, cancer, injury, and antisemitism. Newman ultimately earns a starring role alongside future Hall of Famers, like Dan Marino, Larry Little, and Dwight Stephenson. Hovering over this constellation of talent is Coach Shula, always a relentless critic and sometimes a mentor and father figure. Newman’s story climaxes when he juggles law school final exams with Super Bowl XIX. Warrior Judge is as inspiring as it is lively and surprising; it’s a tale of adversity vanquished by against-all-odds determination.
About the Authors:
Don Shula and the “Perfect Season” Miami Dolphins selected Ed Newman in the sixth round of the 1973 NFL draft out of Duke University. Ed played 12 seasons with the team, participated in one winning Super Bowl and two American Conference championships, and earned All-Pro recognition four times before reluctantly breaking from the Dolphins with a knee injury. Ed went on to pursue a law degree, where he served as a civil litigator and then as a County Court Judge for Miami-Dade for 28 years.
Holly became a Miami Dolphins fan simply because it was “her father’s team.” After graduating from Duke University with summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors, Holly earned a master’s degree in organizational psychology from Teachers College of Columbia University. She used her credentials to shape the culture of numerous Fortune 500 companies. Following the birth of her children, Holly shifted her focus to her family and fulfilled her dream of memorializing her father’s story.
About the Moderator:
Andrew Leinoff is the founding and managing partner of the law firm of Leinoff & Lemos, P.A. He is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Law (J.D., 1974) and an alumnus of The Ohio State University (B.A., 1971). Mr. Leinoff is Board Certified in Marital and Family Law and a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Mr. Leinoff has been recognized for years in national publications, including Robb Report Worth Magazine’s Top 100 Lawyers In The US. He has also repeatedly been selected for inclusion in Florida Super Lawyers magazine, The Best Lawyers in America, South Florida Legal Guide – Top Lawyers magazine and has been recognized by Florida Trend Legal Elite magazine. Mr. Leinoff is past president of the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and also a certified arbitrator.
About the Presenter:
Nat Moore was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the 1974 draft out of the University of Florida. He spent his entire 13-year NFL career with the team, earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors, and played in Super Bowls XVII and XIX. After retiring from professional football in 1987, Moore dedicated himself to giving back to the South Florida community. In 1998, he founded The Nat Moore Foundation to support nonprofits that serve children and youth with limited capacity to raise adequate funding for their missions. In 2009, Moore returned to the Miami Dolphins organization, where he currently serves as the team’s senior vice president of special projects and alumni relations.
