Set in the cities and suburbs of Florida, the 11 short works in Dantiel W. Moniz’s debut collection, Milk Blood Heat: Stories, delve into the ordinary worlds of young girls, women, and men who find themselves confronted by extraordinary moments of violent personal reckoning. These stories explore human connection, race, womanhood, inheritance, and the elemental darkness in us all. Deesha Philyaw’s The Secret Lives of Church Ladies is a short story collection that explores some of the places where Black women and girls dare to follow their desires and pursue a momentary reprieve from being good. There they are as seductive as they want to be, as vulnerable as they need to be, and as free as they deserve to be.

This is a ticketed event: $20.
