In Thicker than Water, Kerry Washington provides an intimate view into her public and private worlds – as an artist, advocate, entrepreneur, mother, daughter, wife, and Black woman. Chronicling her upbringing and life’s journey thus far, she reveals how she faced a series of challenges and setbacks, effectively hid childhood traumas, met extraordinary mentors, managed to grow her career, and crossed the threshold into stardom and political advocacy, ultimately discovering her truest self and, with it, a deeper sense of belonging. Throughout, Washington attempts to answer the questions so many have struggled with: Who am I? What is my truest and most authentic self? How do I find a deeper sense of connection and belonging? With grace and honesty, she inspires readers to search for – and find – themselves.

EVA LONGORIA – actor, producer, director, author, documentarian, and activist – has consistently worked in entertainment for more than 20 years, cementing herself as an industry staple known for her work both in front of and behind the camera. Named by Variety as a most anticipated director of 2023, she continues to hone her craft, seek new projects, and expand opportunities for others by paving the way for future women and minority producers, directors, and industry leaders in Hollywood and beyond. Her portfolio includes directing the critically acclaimed documentary La Guerra Civil, the pilot episode of the HBO Max series Gordita Chronicles – for which she also serves as an executive producer – and the Searchlight biopic Flamin’ Hot; producing and starring in CNN’s docuseries Eva Longoria: Searching For Mexico and the upcoming Apple TV+ series Land of Women; and acting turns in Grand Hotel, BoJack Horseman, Jane the Virgin, Empire, Devious Maids, Telenovela, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Young and the Restless, and the hit ABC series Desperate Housewives. In 2005 she founded production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, which actively chooses purposeful projects that accurately represent the stories of the Latinx and other underrepresented communities.

KERRY WASHINGTON is an Emmy-winning, SAG, and Golden Globe-nominated actor, director, and producer who received widespread recognition for her role as Olivia Pope on ABC’s hit drama Scandal. In 2016 Washington launched her production company Simpson Street, whose projects include HBO’s Confirmation, Netflix’s American Son, Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, the Emmy award-winning ABC special Live in Front of a Studio Audience, and the documentary film The Fight. She is also a lifelong activist and founder of Influence Change (IC21), an initiative that partners with nonprofits to increase voter turnout, and a member of a coalition working to found The Roybal School, aiming to drive change across the entertainment industry for students from underserved communities. For her efforts, Washington was honored as one of Time magazine’s 2022 Women of The Year.
