(Noorani, Ali) Ali Noorani is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, and he has a master’s degree in public health from Boston University. He is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Since 2008 He has served as executive director of the National Immigration Forum, one of the nation’s premiere advocacy organizations, promoting the value of immigrants and immigration. Noorani’s writing has appeared in the pages of the Washington Post, on CNN.com, in the Houston Chronicle, and in the Miami Herald, among other publications. His television-news appearances include CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and PBS NewsHour. His first book, There Goes the Neighborhood (Prometheus), based on nearly 60 interviews with leaders across the civic and political spectrum, tells the story of a changing nation. From national takes on faith, law enforcement and business perspectives, to deeper dives into the dynamics facing South Carolina, Utah, Texas, Indiana and California, it seeks to put a human face, an unlikely one at that, on America’s national identity crisis and clarifies for readers that America’s immigration debate isn’t about policy; it is about the culture and values that make America what it is.
