Professor Scott McCartney, aka DJ Smoove, is an adjunct professor and a 28-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He crafted a pioneering three-credit DJ curriculum at Miami Dade College’s music department at its Kendall campus – the first in the nation. He also started the S Foundation, a nonprofit that brings music and turntable skills to underserved youths. The West Little River (WLR) Marching Band is a percussion-driven ensemble operating under Young Musicians Unite (YMU), a Miami-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free music education to students in underserved communities.
