Speak Up: Creative Writing + Performance (Fall 2024)

Join us online for Speak Up, a teen creative writing program supporting the artistic and professional growth of teens.
In this FREE virtual creative writing workshop mini-series, teens will partner with experienced teaching artists to empower the creative writing process, from drafting to performance to publishing, to boost literacy and empower youth in Miami through community-based writing activities.
The program is open to all teens (ages 13-19) and is as free of charge as it is free of homework. No previous experience necessary!

Instructor – Dan Nott
Theme – Using Comics to Ask Questions and Explore Answers
Dan Nott is a cartoonist, illustrator, and educator living in Vermont. Dan’s short comics and illustrations for investigative journalism have appeared in The Nib and Spotlight PA and in publications for WBUR and NJ Advance Media, among others. Dan graduated from the Center for Cartoon Studies and was the lead writer and cartoonist for its free nationally distributed comic on US government called This Is What Democracy Looks Like. Dan teaches classes on making comics and comics history. His debut nonfiction graphic novel, Hidden Systems was long listed for a National Book Award, selected as an Indies Next and Indies Introduce pick by the American Booksellers Association, and an Honor pick from the National Council of Teachers of English
