First Draft: A Virtual Literary Social with Tamiko Beyer
Wednesday, April 10 @ 6:30 pm
Community, craft, and rapid-fire creativity meet at our First Draft workshop series, monthly virtual salons where writers get social, share their work, and leave with great stories.
Theme: Poetry as Spellcasting
This workshop will lead you through the process of creating a poem-spell for protection and liberation. Through simple rituals of breath and writing, we will access our creativity and intuition in order to send our protective energies and liberatory intentions to the beloveds in our lives. You are invited to bring any or all of the following if you have access to them: a candle or incense, tea or other nourishment, and a Tarot or oracle deck.
Tamiko Beyer is the author of Last Days (Alice James Books, 2021), We Come Elemental (Alice James Books, 2013), and co-editor Poetry As Spellcasting: Poems, Essays, and Prompts for Manifesting Liberation and Reclaiming Power (North Atlantic Books, 2023). She has received awards from Lambda Literary and PEN America, and fellowships and residencies from Kundiman, Hedgebrook, and VONA, among others. With the poet Franny Choi, she co-coordinates Brew & Forge, an organization that brings poets and organizers together to alchemize dreaming and build capacity in movements for liberation, justice, and survival. A social justice communications writer and strategist, she spends her days writing truth to power. She lives and writes on Massachusetts land with her human, canine, and plant family.
