CELEBRATING THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARD NOMINEES FOR TRANSLATED LITERATURE

LIN KING is a writer and translator based in New York and Taipei, Taiwan. Her writing has appeared in One Story, Boston Review, and Joyland, among other publications, and has received the PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers. Her translations from Mandarin and Japanese into English include The Boy from Clearwater (Levine Querido) by Yu Pei-Yun and Zhou Jian-Xin, a graphic novel series on the true story of a Taiwanese former political prisoner; the dystopian novella Cloud Labour (Strangers Press) by Sabrina Huang; and Yáng Shuang-zi’s queer historical novel, Taiwan Travelogue (Graywolf Press).

LINNEA AXELSSON is a Sámi-Swedish writer, born in the province of North Bothnia in Sweden. In 2018, she was awarded the August Prize for this book. She lives in Stockholm.

LUKE LEAFGREN is an assistant dean of Harvard College. He has translated seven novels from Arabic and has twice received the Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation, in 2018 for Muhsin Al-Ramli’s The President’s Gardens and in 2023 for Najwa Barakat’s Mister N.

NATALIE GREEN is the director of programs and partnerships at the National Book Foundation. Before joining the foundation, she was the manager of Los Angeles Programs at PEN America. Green holds a B.A. in English and creative writing from UCLA, co-chairs the Brooklyn Book Festival Bookends committee, and organizes with North Brooklyn Mutual Aid.
