On Writing the Group with Angela Flournoy
This craft talk will examine the benefits and challenges of working with a large cast of characters in fiction, with a focus on techniques to ensure adequate characterization and depth. Titles to be discussed include As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, On Beauty by Zadie Smith and A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James.

Another Republic: Learning from different traditions with Ilya Kaminsky
We will look at the traditions from around the world and discuss various ways on which they can influence our own. Shakespeare learned from Ovid and Greek drama, Whitman & Dickinson learned from the Bible and Hymns, Eliot learned from the French, many contemporary American poets currently in their 60s and 70s learned from Polish poets and Latin American poets. Where is our place in this conversation? What can we take from it for our own work? How do the poets influence each other? How do the poets learn?
