DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, February 8 — March 22\, 2025\, from 3:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. EST \nJoin us online for Speak Up\, a teen creative writing program supporting the artistic and professional growth of teens. \nIn this FREE virtual creative writing workshop mini-series\, teens will partner with experienced teaching artists to empower the creative writing process\, from drafting to performance to publishing\, to boost literacy and empower youth in Miami through community-based writing activities. \nThe program is open to all teens (ages 13-19) and is as free of charge as it is free of homework. No previous experience necessary! \n\nMarch 8: \nInstructor: Marie Lu\nTheme: “What If?” Building a Fantasy/SciFi World \nIt’s time to build a world together! With a given prompt of “What if?…”\, participants will create a fictional world as well as a hero and villain that live in it. Along the way\, we will learn about what makes a compelling fantasy or science fiction world\, how characters are at the heart of worldbuilding\, and what we really want in a good story. \nMarie Lu is the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of Legend\, Warcross\, Skyhunter\, and Stars and Smoke\, among others. She graduated from the University of Southern California and jumped into the video game industry\, where she worked as an artist. A full-time writer\, she spends her spare hours reading\, drawing\, playing games\, and getting stuck in traffic. She lives in Los Angeles with her illustrator/author husband\, Primo Gallanosa\, and their family. \n
