DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, September 14 — October 26\, 2024\, from 3:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. EST\nJoin us online for Speak Up\, a teen creative writing program supporting the artistic and professional growth of teens.\nIn this FREE virtual creative writing workshop mini-series\, teens will partner with experienced teaching artists to empower the creative writing process\, from drafting to performance to publishing\, to boost literacy and empower youth in Miami through community-based writing activities. \nThe program is open to all teens (ages 13-19) and is as free of charge as it is free of homework. No previous experience necessary! \n\nSeptember 14:\nInstructor – Tony Keith Jr.\nTheme – Awakening Knowledge of Self: Don’t Sleep During the Revolution \n\n\n\n\nTony Keith Jr. is a Black American gay poet\, spoken word artist\, and hip-hop educational leader from Washington\, DC. He is author of the YA memoir in verse How the Boogeyman Became a Poet. Tony’s writings have appeared in the International Journal of Critical Media Literacy\, the Journal of Black Masculinity\, and many others. A multiyear Fellow of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities with a PhD in education from George Mason University\, Tony is CEO of Ed Emcee Academy and lives with his husband\, Harry Christian III\, in his DC hometown.
