Or maybe you’ve been hacking away at the publishing process for years and have already absorbed as many guidebooks and inspirational TED talks as one person can handle. This is a workshop for writers trying to get their work out to a wider audience of readers—whatever that means to you at this moment. The course will provide an overview of the traditional publishing process\, the promises and pitfalls of self-publishing\, and other\, non-book ways of sharing your writing with actual readers. From there\, we will address students’ specific locations on the long\, bumpy road of building a writing career. Writers will receive feedback from both the instructor and fellow participants\, with the goal of reaching a reasonable next step within the time-frame of the class. \nRoxanna Elden is the author of a novel called Adequate Yearly Progress\, a nonfiction book called See Me After Class: Advice for Teachers by Teachers\, and a children’s book called Rudy’s New Human. Over the course of her writing career\, she has worked with two different agents and five different publishers—one of which was herself. She has spoken in front of tiny\, disinterested audiences and large\, enraptured crowds\, helped tens of thousands of teachers through the toughest parts of their careers\, and flown to New York City at her own expense for perhaps the most awkward meeting in publishing history. And\, she did much of this while also teaching writing to high school students. Elden’s work has been featured on NPR as well as in The Washington Post\, Forbes\, Education Week and more. \nRegistration required to join event livestream.  \n\nScholarships Available for MDC Students\nMiami Book Fair is offering two (2) full-tuition scholarships for MDC students interested in attending the above-listed creative writing workshops. Applicants must be currently-enrolled\, (full time or part time) degree-seeking Miami Dade College students with a demonstrated financial need. \nTo Apply for a Scholarship:\nPlease send an email to Marci Cancio-Bello\, Miami Book Fair programs coordinator at before the start of the workshop you would like to attend. The message must include your contact information\, the title of the workshop you’d like to take\, a short statement of financial need\, your MDC class schedule\, and a writing sample. First-time writers who lack a writing sample should submit a statement explaining their interest in the workshop. URL: LOCATION:Livestreamed ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg: END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
