DESCRIPTION:4 weeks: Thursdays\, October 6\, 13\, 20\, 27 | 7 – 9 p.m. EST\nOnline | Register to receive link | Registration: $200\nWrite new poems and receive in-depth feedback from poet Dorianne Laux.\nPoet Dorianne Laux will lead participants in five writing prompts\, or “finger exercises.” Writers will generate new poems and receive feedback on work drafted during this workshop. \nDorianne Laux’s sixth collection\, Only As the Day is Long: New and Selected Poems was named a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Her fifth collection\,The Book of Men\, was awarded The Paterson Prize. Her fourth book of poems\, Facts About the Moon\, won The Oregon Book Award and was short-listed for the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize. Laux is also the author of Awake; What We Carry\, a finalist for the National Book Critic’s Circle Award; Smoke; as well as a fine small press edition\, The Book of Women. She is the co-author of the celebrated text The Poet’s Companion: A Guide to the Pleasures of Writing Poetry. \n\nScholarships Available for MDC Students\nMiami Book Fair is offering two (2) full-tuition scholarships for MDC students interested in attending the above-listed creative writing workshop. Applicants must be currently-enrolled\, (full time or part time) degree-seeking Miami Dade College students with a demonstrated financial need. \nTo Apply for a Scholarship: Please submit an application by Wednesday\, September 28 at 11:59 p.m. EST. The application must include your contact information\, the title of the workshop you’d like to take\, a short statement of financial need\, your MDC class schedule\, and a writing sample. First-time writers who lack a writing sample should submit a statement explaining their interest in the workshop. \n
