Tom Franklin

Tom Franklin's literary mystery, Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter (Harper, $14.99), is set in small-town Mississippi, where two boys from utterly different backgrounds share a dark secret.  Twenty years later, a missing youg girl forces both men to face a past they'd rather forget.  Franklin is the author of Poachers:  Stories, Hell at the Breech, and Smonk.

 

Bradford Morrow

In Bradford Morrow's novel, The Diviner's Tale (Harcourt/Houghton Mifflin, $26.00), Cassandra Brooks comes upon the shocking vision of a young girl hanged from a tree. When she returns with authorities to the site, the body has vanished, leaving in question Cassandra’s credibility, if not her sanity. Soon she is locked in a mortal chess match with a real-life killer who has haunted her since before she can remember.  Morrow's awards include an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, O. Henry and Pushcart Prizes.  Bradford Morrow's appearance is cancelled. 

Nelson George

Nelson George's noir novel, The Plot Against Hip Hop (Akashic, $15.95), is set in the world of hip hop culture.  When the stabbing murder of an esteemed music critic is dismissed by the NYPD as a gang initiation, bodyguard/security expert D Hunter suspects there's much more to his death.  George is the author of Hip Hop America and The Death of Rhythnm & Blues.
