Shawn C. Bean

Shawn C. Bean has twice been named Writer of the Year by the Florida Magazine Association. He is a former music and theater reviewer for the Miami New Times and current a contributor to Florida Travel & Life and Miami. He is the author of The First Hollywood: Florida and the Golden Age of Silent Filmmaking (University Press of Florida).

Gloria Colvin

Gloria Colvin is the chair of the Florida Book Awards Executive Committee. A reference librarian at Florida State University, she edits the semiannual journal Florida Libraries.

John Dufresne

John Dufresne’s work includes the novels Requiem, Mass. and Love Warps the Mind a Little (a New York Times Notable Book), and the fiction writing guides The Lie That Tells a Truth and Is Life Like This? He lives in Dania Beach, and teaches in the creative writing program at Florida International University in Miami. "An extraordinarily generous and lyrical storyteller."—The San Francisco Chronicle.

David Kirby

David Kirby is the author of The Temple Gate Called Beautiful (Alice James Books), plus several other volumes of poetry and essays. The House on Boulevard St.: New and Selected Poems was nominated for the 2007 National Book Award in poetry. Married to the poet Barbara Hamby, he lives in Tallahassee and teaches at Florida State University, where he is the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of English. “Kirby's latest book holds steady with the same dry wit and fantastic themes that characterize his earlier works.” – Library Journal.

Deborah Shlian

Deborah Shlian and Joel Shlian are a husband-and-wife writing team with three published paperback novels, one romance and two medical thrillers (Double Illusion and Wednesday’s Child). Their fourth novel, Rabbit in the Moon, a thriller set in China, the Florida Book Award Gold Medal for Genre Fiction. Deborah’s latest thriller, Dead Air (Oceanview), written with Linda Reid, will be released in December. Deborah and Joel Shlian are also physicians and medical consultants/recruiters.

Joel Shlian

John Tkac

John Tkac (pronounced Tack), author of the novel Whispers From the Bay (Southeast Books), was raised in Miami. A sales consultant, he lives in Delray Beach, Florida, where he is working on the second and third books of the Dolphin Chronicles series.

Susan Womble

Susan Womble, author of the young adult novel Newt’s World: Internal Byte (CyPress Publications), is a teacher at Godby High School in Leon County, Fla. Her previous book, Newt’s World: Beginnings, won the  2008 Florida Book Award Gold Medal in children’s literature.
