Author(s) and Guest(s)

Aline Crumb

In their graphic memoir Drawn Together: The Collected Works of Aline & R. Crumb (Liverlight, $29.95) our foremost male-female cartooning couple recall their success at shocking America with Weirdo Magazine, the life-altering birth of their precocious daughter Sophie, and their astonishing move to the safe haven of France.  The collection, featuring collaborative strips dating back to the mid-70s, also includes guest illustrations from daughter Sophie and cameos from Art Spiegelman and Charles Burns.

Hillary Chute

In Graphic Women: Life Narrative & Contemporary Comics (Columbia University Press,) Hillary Chute explores the verbal and visual techniques of five influential female cartoonists who have moved the art of autobiography and graphic storytelling in new directions, particularly through the depiction of sex, gender, and lived experience.  “The graphic novel industry isn’t a boys club.”—Time Out Chicago.  Chute is Neubauer Family Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago.
