Gene Yang

Gene Luen Yang began drawing comic books in the fifth grade. His 2006 graphic novel American Born Chinese was a National Book Award finalist, as well as the winner of the Printz Award and an Eisner Award. His 2013 graphic novel diptych Boxers & Saints was also a finalist for the National Book Award. He also writes the New York Times bestselling graphic novel series based on Nickelodeon’s popular Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon.  

Joan Hilty

As a senior editor at the DC Comics/Vertigo imprint, Hilty acquired and edited award-winning original graphic novels.   She is also the creator of the syndicated comic strip Bitter Girl, and her work has appeared in the Village Voice, The Advocate, Ms. Magazine, Women’s Review of Books, among others.  Currently, Hilty is an independent editor and packager of fiction and nonfiction, specializing in graphic novels.    

Joan Hilty is the comics editor for Nickelodeon Global Publishing, whose books include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW Publishing) and Avatar: The Last Airbender (Dark Horse Comics).
