An Evening With Wally Lamb

Thursday, Nov. 21, 6:00 p.m., Chapman Conference Center (Building 3, 2nd Floor, Room 3210)

Author(s) and Guest(s)

Wally Lamb

When Oprah Winfrey selected both of Wally Lamb's first two novels, She's Come Undone and I Know This Much Is True, for inclusion in her Book Club, Lamb was catapulted into the literary limelight.  The subject matter of his latest novel, We Are Water (Harper Collins; $29.99), is just as ambitious and no less auspicious. Set in New England and New York during the first years of the Obama presidency, it is a portrait of modern America, exploring issues of class, changing social mores, and the legacy of racial violence.  Those themes also appear in Lamb's two bestselling anthologies of writing authored by inmates at the maximum-security York Correctional Institute, Couldn't Keep It to Myself  and I'll Fly Away. Join one of the most respected authors on the literary scene, whose writing prompted Oprah to say,  "It's not just a book, it's a life experience."
