In Outlaw Marriages: The Hidden Histories of Fifteen Extraordinary Same-Sex Couples (Beacon Press, $26.95) journalist and cultural historian Rodger Streitmatter brings to life fifteen extraordinary couples who defied the social order and laws of their day by creating and thriving in same-sex marriages. Spanning over a hundred years, Streitmatter profiles couples who have made remarkable contributions in numerous fields ranging from education, social work and literature to modern art, filmmaking and music. “…Thoroughly researched, lovingly rendered. . .”—Publishers Weekly. Streitmatter is currently a professor in the School of Communication at American University and the author of seven previous books.
