Joyce Brabner
Joyce Brabner is writer of comics and frequently collaborated with her late husband Harvey Pekar on his American Splendor stories. Pekar and Brabner worked with artist Frank Stack on the Harvey Award-winning graphic novel, Our Cancer Year. Brabner was portrayed by actress Hope Davis in the film adaptation of American Splendor (2003), and also appeared as herself. Brabner edited Real War Stories, and the acclaimed non-fiction graphic novel Brought to Light with writer Alan Moore and artist Bill Sienkiewicz, which dealt in part with the CIA's involvement in the Iran-Contra affair. Brabner is currently working on another nonfiction comic book with Ray Dobbins (The Colombian Arts Council Grant) to be illustrated by Mark Zingarelli. She is also organizing efforts to raise funds for a Pekar memorial in Cleveland, on Kickstarter, the "Harvey Pekar Library Statue: Comics as Art & Literature Desk."
