Denis Kitchen
Underground cartoonist and longtime publisher Denis Kitchen collects a seminal '40s comic book series in Crime Does Not Pay: The True Story of Bob Wood, The Killer Cartoonist (Dark Horse, $19.99). Revered and reviled--featuring thrilling, disturbing, and brutal tales and despicable characters--Crime Does Not Pay enthralled the country and, with acclaimed readership of over 5 million, was the most popular comic book of its day. Kitchen's second published book this year, Denis Kitchen's Chipboard Sketchbook (Boom! Studios, $19.95), collects the drawings he's made on the chipboard back of writing tablets starting in the late 80s. After accumulating nearly a quarter century of these private drawings in drawers, Kitchen was persuaded by associates to publish them. Presented with an introduction by the artist.
