Brooke Hauser
Set in the months before and after Barack Obama’s election, Brooke Hauser's work of narrative journalism, The New Kids: Big Dreams and Brave Journeys at a High School for Immigrant Teens. (Free Press, $26.00), chronicles a year at Brooklyn's International High School, where the students come from approximately forty-five countries and speak more than twenty-eight languages. The stories of a handful of students lend a human face to the current immigration debate. Previously, Hauser covered the film industry as writer-at-Large at Premiere magazine, where she was also an editor.
